Biography
Sonya is a partner in the Commercial Litigation Team in Adelaide. She specialises in dispute resolution and advice, often involving insurance related matters. She graduated from Flinders University of South Australia with First Class Honours and worked at top tier firm in London, Allen & Overy before returning to Adelaide.
Her practice comprises of:
- defending professional indemnity, public and product liability claims, providing indemnity advice to and pursuing recovery claims for insurers and advising them on their exposure to claims arising from the activities of their representatives under the Corporations Act
- advising corporates on significant insurance coverage disputes under their policies of insurance
- advising corporates on their insurance policies (including directors and officers' policies for directors and officers) and insurance aspects of their contracts, together with due diligence enquiries on corporate acquisitions, and
- defending corporates in liability claims by third parties, including claims in the District Courts of New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia.
In London, Sonya was involved in complex and high profile contentious international disputes, including coverage, political risk and business interruption claims.
She is a member of the Law Society of South Australia, Professional Indemnity Insurance Association and Australian Insurance Law Association. She co-ordinated the South Australian and Northern Territory aspects of Minter Ellison's annotated Insurance Contracts Act Handbook and was previously an Assistant Editor for the Flinders Journal of Law Reform.
Sonya is admitted as a solicitor and barrister in South Australia, and as a solicitor in England and Wales.
