Biography

Andrew is a partner in the Human Resources and Industrial Relations team in Perth, and a member of the firms' highly regarded national HR/IR practice. With 25 years' experience in workplace law, specialising in consulting to and litigating for Australian and multinational clients across a range of sectors, including education, mining, energy, transport, construction, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and government, Andrew is highly regarded in the field.

Andrew's recent experience includes:

  • advising on major corporate acquisitions in Western Australia
  • strategic industrial relations advice on change management and collective bargaining 
  • significant safety and health prosecutions
  • advising the transport and energy sectors on strategic safety and health planning 
  • providing remuneration and superannuation advice, including employee share and options plans
  • Supreme Court litigation over confidential information and restrictive coverance 

Clients include Aibel, Boral, City of Perth, Harmony Gold, Santos, Racing and Wagering Western Australia, Great Southern Plantations, HWE Mining (a division of Leightons), Calibre Global, Toll Holdings, Straits Resources and MacMahon Ltd.

Andrew is an expert in safety and health legislation and practices in the manufacturing and mining sectors in Western Australia, as well as the areas regulated by the National Offshore Petroleum Agency (NOPSA).  He advises on workplace investigations, defending prosecutions and has provided practical solutions to the problems posed by multi-employer worksites by creating safety and health protocols for post incident investigations.

He provides a wide range of workplace legal services, including:

  • occupational health and safety
  • advice on entitlement and superannuation issues
  • training for management in industrial relations
  • due diligence work on major corporate acquisitions
  • contract preparation for public and private clients
  • collective bargaining
  • protection of confidential information
  • development of retention strategies through share options and incentive programs

  • expatriate contracts and ancillary issues.

He is an active member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Australia Corporate Lawyers Association and a Trustee (WA) of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia.
